It’s a new month. Seriously, let’s talk about this for a second. How is it already September?!? Anyways, we are totally in love with color these days! So much that we couldn’t pick a favorite to focus on for September. So this month we are sharing our favorite colorful inspiration.
From top left to bottom right:
-Since the kids are all back to school and already busy with their school work, we thought it would be fun to have cute little bookmarks for them to print off and personalize for their books. See below for the link to the FREE DOWNLOAD.

Summer Reading Chart
Getting your kiddos excited to read all summer can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be. Petite Lemon created this super awesome Summer Reading Chart to not only get them excited, but to help them see their progress along the way. You can adapt this Summer Reading Chart to any reader by setting the specifics and the reward at the end (a little bribery never hurt, right?)
Dr. Seuss said it best, when he said “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

A poster and paper size are included to help the little ones get started on their reading adventure.
Summer Match Game for Kids
Looking for some summer fun? Enjoy a game of matching madness. It’s an instant solution when the “mom, I’m bored” sentiment is sung in your house. We spend a lot of time outside (well pretty much all of our time is spent outside) so this outside match game was perfect to help keep my kids occupied.
Click here to download the FREE summer match game.
It’s simple to prepare too! Download the match game, print out the images and lay them on your lawn. Your kids will enjoy finding the matching icons. And when the game is through, mix up the images and let them play again (and again, and again, and again…….).
As Summer Draws to a Close
The very last days of summer are now upon us. Summertime almost feels like a distant memory now. Something that felt like it just begun is now ending.
The end of summer is a bitter/sweet time for me. I can’t help but think about all the adventures that came with it, such as picnics, BBQs, fireworks, pool time, weekend camping trips, vacations to grandmas, last minute road trips, snow cones galore, and lots and lots of sunshine (and sunscreen)!
As the weather begins to change and kids go back to school I can help but think of the new adventures and opportunities that come with a new season. Let’s all look forward to what fall has in store, knowing that the lazy days of summer will come again.

Recycled Boxes = Free Fun!!!
All kids suffer from bouts of summer boredom despite our efforts to keep them busy. Here’s a fun idea to keep them busy for hours. After your next trip to Costco, save all your cardboard boxes and turn them into a obstacle course or a shooting range for foam darts. Let your kids make their own shields out of boxes, which will also keep there little minds and hands busy.

Family Photo Time
You are enjoying your summer vacation with your family so it makes sense to attempt a family photo to document where you are and what you are doing. In your mind it’s simple, just stand there, smile and then we’ll take a quick shot. It will be beautiful and precious and we’ll treasure it forever…….. Oh and look happy, don’t throw a tantrum, wipe the food off your face, and try to hide the mud that is on your shirt. After wrestling and bribing your kids to just stand still, you take a shot and this is what you get – reality. Even though the result is not what you had hoped for, treasure it for what it is.
For the LOVE of Yellow!
All month we’ve been crushin’ on the color yellow! It’s the perfect color for summer (and we LOVE summer)! We though we’d show you more yellow inspiration that’s making us happy.
From top to bottom:
- We created this yellow lemon pattern. It’s a fun hand-drawn and simple illustration of delicious summer lemons.
- This is one of our Petite Lemon kids blowing bubbles in her favorite yellow birthday dress.
- “Squeeze the Day” is a perfect kid quote for summer. Kids are always trying to squeeze as much adventure as they can in every summer day. Those smartie pants know what they are doing. We adults could really learn a lesson or two from them!
- We thought these yellow bricks would be awesome as a backdrop for a photoshoot. They are sunny and bright – just what we like.
Next month we’ll be on to a new color. We can’t wait to show you the next color we can’t seem to get enough of.
