When you design personalized baby gifts for a living, you know a thing or two about names. But no matter how popular or uncommon a name is, we’re always fascinated by why parents chose that name. Middle names are usually even more interesting, maybe because parents feel they have a little more leeway to be creative or have an ability to pay homage to a relative whether they’re a fan of the name or not. Regardless, we thought Babble’s recent post on middle name inspiration (here) was a good source for ideas and have two ideas ourselves too, which we’ve shown with big sister shirts and big brother shirts.
Music – Names from your favorite song make a great choice because it’ll put a smile on your face whenever you hear that song. The middle names on these big brother shirts and big sister shirts were inspired by The Beatles, Rick Springfield, The Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton. (Shown: Playful Doodles Big Brother T shirt; Patterned Delight Big Sister Tshirt; Love to Sketch Big Brother T shirt; Merry Menagerie Big Sister Tshirt)
Literary Characters – Whether it’s from a current bestseller or a childhood favorite, literary characters can become like a beloved friend, so choosing that name for your child’s middle name will allow that friendship to stay with you. The middle names on these big brother shirts and big sister shirts were inspired by The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Madeline, Gone With the Wind, and Little Women. Top Boys Names of 2013
It might seem like a silly thing to get excited about, but as designers of personalized baby giftswe kind of can’t help it, we LOVE when the Social Security Administration announces the top names of the year. For the last several years there hasn’t been a whole lot of change when it came to the top 5 names for boys and girls, but 2013 was a real game changer for boys. For the first time in decades, neither Jacob nor Michael were the most commonly chosen names for boys – in 2013, Noah grabbed the top spot.
If you have a Noah or know someone who recently had one, we think personalized baby gifts with an animal theme would be perfect for boys with this Biblical name most often associated with the man with the ark.
(Shown: Merry Menagerie Big Brother T shirt, Whale of Fun Big Brother T shirt, Joyful Elephant, Gentle Giraffe, and Sweet Fox personalized onesies; Playful Owls Big Brother T shirt)
Two other big movers on the list were Liam up to #2 from #10 and Daniel made it into the top 10 at #10, surprisingly knocking the super popular Aiden out of the top 10 altogether.
Daniel is popular around the globe, currently #1 in Spain, so the Around the World Big Brother T shirt would make a great option.
Green-colored personalized baby gifts are fitting for boys with the Irish name Liam, which can also be a nickname for William (which happens to be #5 on the list!). (Shown: Stamped Delight and Beep Beep personalized onesies)
Are you buying a big brother t shirt or other personalized baby gifts for boys with a top 10 name, like Jacob, Mason, Ethan, Michael, Alexander, or Jayden?

Naming Trend of the Week: Mayflower Names
With Thanksgiving approaching, we tend to think back to the Pilgrims who sailed here in search of a new life. And when we look at the names of many of these Pilgrims, we’re not totally surprised that their names are often still used today, including Catherine, Mary, May, Elizabeth, Thomas, James, Samuel, Isaac, and Edward.
Sure, there were some very unique monikers, like Oceanus and Peregrine, the names given to the two babies actually born onboard the Mayflower, but most were classic names that continue to be popular today.
If you’re a big fan of names you can trace back to the Mayflower, here are some 1st birthday shirts, big brother shirts, and big sister shirts that would make excellent gifts for wee ones with those names.
Royal themed big sister shirts would make great choices for an Alice, meaning noble, and Sarah, Hebrew for princess, the 127th and 47th most popular girl names in the US in 2012, respectively. (Shown: Charming Castle Big Sister Tshirt and Looks Like Me Princess Big Sister Tshirt)
1st birthday shirts with candles or stars would be perfect for little ones named Eleanor, Greek for light (#135), or Robert, meaning bright and shining (#61). (Shown: Happy to Be and 1st Birthday Shirts)
Big brother shirts show sibling pride, which is ideal for a William, meaning resolute guardian (#5), and Henry, ruler of the home (#43). (Shown: Retro Style Big Brother T shirt and Playful Owls Big Brother T shirt)
Does your child have a Mayflower-inspired name?
Naming Trend of the Week: Halloween Names
People look for baby naming inspiration pretty much anywhere and everywhere, including their favorite horror movies and TV shows. And with Halloween only a few weeks away, we’re sure there are plenty of parents out there watching those shows to get in the spirit of this frightfully fun holiday. Of course we know they don’t really want a little vampire or monster on their hands, but the sound of some of the characters’ names will still appeal to them. After all, when you like a name, you just like it!
We picked a few big brother shirts and big sister shirts that would be fitting for a little one with a name inspired by new or classic scary movies.
Even if they bring to mind some pretty scary characters, there’s no denying that Carrie and Damien are both really nice names. (Shown: Stamped Style Big Brother T shirt and Big Sister Tshirt)
Are you a fan of the Child’s Play movies or just like the name Charles and its diminutive Chuck (or Chucky)? Though Tiffany seems like an upbeat girl’s name from the 80’s, a fan of those movies will also know it’s Chucky’s bride’s name. (shown: Kids Play Big Brother T shirt and Big Sister Tshirt)
There’s no doubt that the Twilight movies, True Blood, and the wealth of vampire movies and TV shows that have become so popular have produced new names, as well as revived some classic ones. (Shown: Chic Style Big Brother T shirt and Big Sister Tshirt; Looks Like Me Big Sister Tshirt and Retro Style Big Brother T shirt)
Did a horror movie or monstrously famous TV show inspire your wee one’s name? If so, which of these big brother shirts and big sister shirts would you choose for them?
Naming Trend of the Week: Fall Themed Names
We recently named Autumn as a Cool Name of the Week, just in time for the start of the fall season. If you have a baby due soon or fall just happens to be your favorite season, we think this fabulous season of turning leaves and festive celebrations can definitely serve as inspiration.
To give you some ideas of fall-themed names for boys and girls, we chose some big brother shirts and big sister shirts to reflect this cozy, colorful time of year.
The golden light of the season and the coordinating fiery colors of the changing foliage inspire names like Amber, Goldie, Sienna, Scarlet, Blaze, Hunter, Rusty, Forrest, and Leaf/Leif. (Shown: Chic Style Big Brother T shirt, Super Big Brother T shirt, Retro Style Big Brother T shirt, Playful Owls Big Brother T shirt; Sunny Flower Big Sister Tshirt and Stamped Style Big Sister Tshirt)
Which of these big brother shirts and big sister shirts most reflect fall to you?
Naming Trends – Rhymes with “Aiden”
We all know Aiden has been one of the most popular boy’s names over the last several years, but several names that rhyme with it are also incredibly popular – one even surpassing it in popularity. According to the Social Security Administration, Aiden was the 10th most common boy’s name in 2012 while Jayden was actually #7. Brayden came in at #39, Kayden was #99, and Hayden was #109, making names that end with “Ayden” a continuing trend.
Do you have an Aiden, Brayden, Cayden/Kayden, or Hayden? Which big brother shirtswould you choose that are just as hip and cool as they are?Love the sound of these names so much, they inspired you twice? Here are two big brother shirts that would be perfect for your “ayden” named boys. (Shown: Under Construction Big Brother T shirt and Double Trouble Big Brother T shirt)
